Privacy notice

What this website collects, why we collect it, how long we keep it, and who can see it.

Effective October 2026.

This website is run by the Eating Together program of the Baltimore City Health Department, Division of Aging & Community Support. In this notice, "we" and "us" mean the program.

The short version

  • You can read every page of this website without telling us who you are.
  • When you send a form, we keep what you typed, plus the internet address and type of device it came from.
  • We use it to contact you, run the program and keep the website safe.
  • We never sell your information or use it for advertising. There are no advertising or tracking cookies.

What we collect

When you ask to join an activity

Your name, phone number, email (if you give one), how many people are coming and their names, and anything you tell us in the notes. If we save you a place, we make a pass with these details. At the activity, staff record who came and any donation you choose to make.

When you offer to volunteer

Your name, phone number, email and ZIP code (if you give them), the kinds of help you're interested in, the languages you speak, when you're available, and your message.

When you send feedback

Your rating and comment, and your name and phone or email if you give them. We only show your comment, rating and the name you chose on the website if you tick the box that allows it and a staff member approves it. Your phone number and email are never shown.

With every form

The date and time, the language you were reading the page in, the internet (IP) address the form was sent from, and the type of browser and device (for example, "Chrome on Android"). We use these to stop repeated or automated forms and to look into misuse.

When you just read the website

Like all web servers, ours keeps short technical logs of the pages requested, including internet addresses, to keep the site running and safe. We don't use them to identify visitors.

How we use it

  • To call or email you about your request, and to send you your pass.
  • To check you in at the activity and know who is coming.
  • To count attendance, volunteers, feedback and donations for the agencies that fund the program. These reports use totals, not names.
  • To improve the program based on your feedback.
  • To protect the website and our staff accounts from misuse.

How long we keep it

  • Internet addresses and device details sent with forms are erased automatically after 12 months.
  • The security log of staff sign-ins and website misuse is erased automatically after 12 months.
  • The details you typed into a form are kept while we need them to run the program and report to our funders, following the City's records rules. Staff then delete them.

Cookies and your device

  • We don't use advertising, analytics or tracking cookies, and we don't load anything from social media or advertising companies. Our fonts and images come from this website.
  • When you open a form, the website sets one security cookie that stops other websites from sending forms in your name. It is deleted when you close your browser.
  • Your browser remembers your language, text size, and which announcements you have read. This stays on your device and is not sent to us.
  • Staff who sign in to the staff area get a sign-in cookie. Visitors never do.

Who can see it

  • Eating Together staff who sign in to the staff area. Staff accounts are protected with two-step sign-in, and every sign-in is recorded.
  • Companies that host the website or send its emails for the City, only as needed to provide that service.
  • Others only when the law requires it. Records the City holds may be requested under the Maryland Public Information Act, which also protects some personal information from being released.

We do not sell, rent or trade your information, and we do not share it for marketing.

How we protect it

The website only works over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. Staff accounts need a strong password and a second step: a code from an app or by email. Accounts lock after repeated wrong passwords, and our security team is told about suspicious sign-ins. To help with this, we look up the approximate city and country of an internet address using a list kept on our own server. The address is not sent to anyone else.

Children

Eating Together serves adults aged 60 and over and their spouses. This website is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.

Other websites

Some links, such as map directions or our partners' websites, take you to other sites. Their own privacy policies apply there.

Your choices

  • You don't have to use the website. You can join activities and volunteer by phone.
  • You can ask us what information we have about you, and ask us to correct or delete it. If the law requires us to keep something, we'll tell you.
  • You can ask us to take your comment off the website at any time.

Questions or requests

Contact the Eating Together program. We may ask a few questions to make sure we're talking to the right person before we share or change anything.

Changes to this notice

If we change what we collect or how we use it, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
